Course Description

Studio clay, Glazing, Kiln Firing and Tool Usage Included in the price. Class overview: This 6-week session will be all about the basics of wheel throwing. This class is great for first timers as well as students who have already taken a beginner class before. We will be starting from the very beginning to master the fundamental processes, including: wedging, centering, throwing cylinders (and other forms), trimming, and glazing. There's absolutely no pressure to have any experience or have it all figured out. Come to class with an open mind and we will work through your goals together to make some beautiful, unique pieces! 60-21 Myrtle Ave | Ridgewood, Queens Mondays 12-2:30pm From 6/1-7/6 *Students can expect to finish around 5 pieces by the end of the course, with a maximum of 8 pieces to take home. Please remember that these classes are designed for learning and exploration—not high-volume production. We encourage a focus on skill-building and creative growth. Cancelations must be before 5/26 to be eligible for a partial refund. ($25 Cancelation fee) Teacher Bio: Born in Korea and currently based in Brooklyn, Donghee is an artist-ceramist making sense of her mind through observation, listening and touch. She has studied in New York, Jerusalem, and Korea to learn the possibilities of clay and continues to explore various ways of making and its chemistry and natural firings. By blending traditional throwing methods taught in Korea and her own experimental ways of making, she makes objects that are both symmetrical, logical, and enigmatic. Finished objects often both reflect and challenge the traditional, encouraging new methodologies while understanding traditional. She holds a Fine Arts BFA from Parsons school of Design and continues to learn from different places in the world which carries its own unique and distinct ways of making, understanding, firing, and most importantly its own clay.
